about the artist
Born in Melbourne, Brad’s natural aptitude for art led him to study graphic design at RMIT. His subsequent career has been as a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and painter.
Brad has been exhibiting and selling his own art for over 40 years. Based in Westbury, Tasmania since 2015, he now concentrates on his own art practice.
Brad’s work can be viewed online or at his studio in Westbury. His paintings appear regularly in exhibitions across Tasmania.
In 2023, Bridgewater won first prize at the Tasmanian Art Society’s bi-annual Water Ways exhibition in Hobart, Left Behind won a major prize at the Burnie Coastal Art Group’s 45th TASART awards and Hagley Garage won first prize at the Meander Valley Art Award.
In 2024, Brad’s painting Tamar Street was shortlisted for the Glover Prize and was awarded the Children’s Choice for that year.
In my professional career, experimentation and flexibility were necessary skills to create the best outcomes. My commercial experience has been a major influence on my fine art practice.
Focusing on my own work, I now find myself passionately interested in mark-making, using unconventional tools and techniques to convey impressions of colour and light.
My art is constantly evolving as I explore ways to express what I observe around me.
